my brain’s not working today.
Let’s start with fabric I bought in Atlanta.
New Crait Leia fabric. This was the most expensive stuff I bought. Liked how it has that tinge of a browner-grey in some lights and desaturated grey in others. It’s got a texture that looked fairly close to the close-ups of the cape. It’s not exact, again, but it’ll be a step in the right direction.
I don’t think I’m going to disassemble my first cloak – I think I still have my pattern pieces (oh I hope). I know the changes I need to make – taller collar in the back, shorten the sleeve hems, eliminate the back seam. I’m excited to tackle this and bring back an updated version for Dcon.
Loyalist Committee Padme skirt/bodice fabric? Maybe? It’s not quite the right colour. I may use this as mock-up fabric or lining. Going to make the call after I dye the velvet.
Qi’ra pants fabric. So I guess that’s a thing that is happening. Funny thing is I picked this out based on the texture and weight, went ahead and got it cut and at that point discovered this is the wrong side of the fabric – the right side has big gold flowers all over it LMAO. You can kinda see the gold peeking through some of the weave at points. But I’m hoping it’ll still work.
That’s all I got in Atlanta. I had a list of like 20 things and that’s all I found. BOO.
But in the YAY category, our yard EXPLODED in flowers while we were in Orlando. We spent Thursday and Friday evenings working in the yard.
Side yard
Front path
Saturday it rained ALLLLL day. But we did have this cute chipmunk in the front yard.
Last week I also threw my Bespin dress and shrug on the new form so I could take some pics of it on there.
Friday was crazy day at work but towards the end of the day UPS came in with a flower delivery for me! Since it was so close to time to leave, I left them in the box til I got home.
The note from Chase says thank you for planning a wonderful vacation! š
Here they are a bit more opened up on Sunday.
Last week ran out to Joann to get some super basic stuff – I wanted some green cotton to do the petticoat/bum roll for my Belle library dress (got a cute green polka dot), and some white cotton for new panniers for the pink Georgian. We’re shooting the pink Georgian in 2 weeks, and my panniers from 2011 have seen better days. I ended up with some white cotton with silver polka dots.
I disassembled my old hoops – and thankfully the old hooping in them was still fine, so I was able to reuse that.
Here they are as of Friday night. Assembly went fast – got all the pieces cut, sewn together, seams finished. Instead of making bias tape like the pattern called for (um no thanks), I just bought white bias tape to finish the top edge, and to do the hoop casing.
At the point of the pic above, I’d gotten the top 3 pieces of hooping in but not the bottom. Also hadn’t gotten the end tucked in and the bias tape sewn closed over it.
Finished wrestling the hooping in on Saturday and got the casings sewn closed. Got the interior ribbons just pinned on. Then Sunday went through and handsewed them in place.
Here’s the new panniers with my underskirt on them! I didn’t dig out my petticoat for this pic – the petticoat helps that top hoop not be seen so much.
Before…
After!
I realize it’s not a huge difference. The dress just look a little bit perkier in the “after” photo. The main problems with the old set were #1, I made them in 2011 and I’ve come a long way since 2011, #2, the hoops kept collapsing in on themselves because I didn’t fasten them in anyway in the back – I could’ve fixed that in the original panniers, but #3, the fabric was stretched out and had some fraying raw edges and just basic problems. So new panniers was the easiest order – and it was easy, I could’ve done them in a day if I’d buckled down.
So yeah we’re (hopefully) doing a photoshoot with this in 2 weeks. We have it booked and I say hopefully because looking at the weather forecast is making me anxious LOL. Right now 50% chance of rain that day. But this just takes me back to 11 years when I was watching the weather forecast like a hawk hoping it wasn’t going to rain on my outdoor wedding LOL. The photoshoot location is the same place we got married, and it’s on our anniversary too! So that’s going to be fun. If it doesn’t rain. Fingers crossed.
If it does I guess we’ll just cancel and shoot in the backyard cuz I mean our backyard is looking pretty legit. Just have the problem of fences.
Sunday we had early Easter lunch.
Then ran a couple of errands and then back home to watch Game of Thrones.
Luna totally chilling during GOT.
Art!
I just realized I never posted this one I finished before the Disney trip.
This one was based on some AOTC concept art. I liked how the top kinda looked like Rey so I kinda went with that colour scheme – though took it a little more saturated and warmer in the layers of the skirt. And added some gold metallic flaking to the skirts because it is Padme after all,
This was based on the concept for the TPM handmaiden battle dresses. It’s not THAT different than what appeared on screen… some of the little details are different, no collar, longer skirt. So I wanted to do a different colour. Though in my mind I kept it velvet because it’s velvet and I love velvet. LOL.
